Glenda Calvert
Substance Use Program Manager & Certified Addictions Counsellor
Glenda brings over 25 years of counselling expertise, specializing in working with adults with significant substance use disorders, addictions and mental health issues. She has worked as a Certified Addictions Counsellor for 23+ years, working in residential, inpatient and community addiction treatment. Glenda also has experience working with Alberta Justice in Psychology at the Edmonton Remand Centre. She is comfortable providing counselling services to people from all walks of life. Glenda uses a wide range of evidence-based treatment modalities to best meet each individual’s needs and achieve their goals.
Glenda is conscientious about using a trauma-informed approach and aims to provide a safe space for individuals to express where they are at with no judgment. Whether this is a person’s first time exploring their substance use disorder or they have been through previous treatment and returned to using substances again, she is interested in helping them make sense of their experiences. Glenda’s approach is about teaching personal empowerment and helping people to thrive in their life. She takes a client-centered approach which is always recovery-oriented, strength-based, and solution-focused. Glenda has extensive experience facilitating trauma groups with her work in Addiction treatment centers. Through this trauma work, she is familiar with many grounding and self-soothing techniques to help a person to cope healthily instead of turning to substances. Her counselling helps individuals to explore healthy coping skills to manage stressors, triggers and cravings. In addition, she will explore how to improve relationships by teaching about establishing boundaries and empowering independence. For those involved in 12-Step fellowship (AA, NA, CA, CMA, CoDA, etc), Glenda is familiar and comfortable taking a spiritual approach to counselling, helping the person explore their values and beliefs to develop a sense of meaning and purpose that is often necessary to maintain mental health and addiction recovery. Glenda joined Envision Mind Care in 2023 and runs the Substance Use Disorder/Addiction Program portion.
Glenda is certified in Addiction Counseling through the Canadian Addiction Counsellors Certification Federation (CACCF) and is a member of the Association of Counselling Therapy of Alberta (ACTA). She received her Industrial Internship Cooperative degree in Psychology from the University of Alberta in 2000. Glenda also has a certificate from City U Vancouver in Clinical Supervision and is working towards her Clinical Supervision of Addiction Counsellors certification through CACCF.
